How we collect jobs and pay data

Where the jobs come from

We keep a list of thousands of employers that hire financial analysts: banks, insurers, asset managers, government bodies and the finance teams of large companies. For each one we find its own careers site or applicant tracking system (Workday, Greenhouse, Oracle, iCIMS, SuccessFactors and others) and read the open jobs directly from it, every few hours. We add a small number of public job feeds, such as USAJOBS for US government roles.

We don't copy jobs from other job boards, and every "Apply" button goes to the employer's own application page.

How we know a job is still open

Each job carries the time we last saw it on the employer's site. When a job disappears from the employer's site, we mark it closed within hours: it leaves our lists, search engines are told, and its page says it has closed.

What counts as a financial analyst job

Every job title goes through our classifier, which sorts it into a role (FP&A, credit, treasury, investment and so on) and a level, from internship to manager. Director and executive roles, accounting and audit roles, and jobs outside the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand are left out. We remove the same job when it's posted on more than one of an employer's sites.

Salaries

Where an employer publishes pay in a posting, we show it exactly as posted. Salary pages use only these employer-posted figures from the last 12 months, converted to yearly pay (hourly × 2,080), using the middle of each range. For the US we also show the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics benchmark.

When a US posting has no pay, we may show an estimate built from government wage data (BLS OEWS and H-1B filings with the US Department of Labor), adjusted for the role, level, city and employer. Estimates are always labelled "estimate", are never shown as the employer's figure, and never appear in the data we give search engines.

Places

Locations are matched to places using GeoNames (CC BY 4.0) and US Census metro areas.
